Royal Ascot Millinery Collective 2021

On the 6th of May Fenwick on New Bond Street, London, launched the 6th Royal Ascot Millinery Collective, and boy oh boy it was such a welcomed sight to see the piece I designed come out of storage and be able to share it with you.

The Royal Ascot Millinery Collective provides a platform to celebrate the best of British millinery, especially after a challenging year like 2020.

Each designer, of which there are 10, has a strong affiliation with horse racing and has been integral in launching this beautiful collection with many of the designs drawing inspiration from nature which has been such a welcome retreat for so many over the past year.

It is a real pinch-me moment in my career as a designer and milliner to see my work sat amongst the people I have looked up to on my journey.

My hat, which is called, “The Happiest Hat”, was a continuation of my Pride, Spring-Summer, mood which I launched in 2020 which is also available at Fenwick, New Bond Street, London as well as online at www.JulianGarner.com.

The Happiest Hat

The Happiest Hat

I wanted the design to be a traditional shape with an ultra-sleek trimming and obviously a pop of color. The design has been hand blocked, painted, and trimmed from start to finish.

Last year during Royal Ascot 2020, I and many other top milliners were approached to make a hat to celebrate and raise money for our NHS. The campaign was called Styled with Thanks. The piece I designed, “Happy Days”, was a nod to the design that would eventually be revealed in this year’s Millinery Collective. The campaign raised £400,000.00 for the NHS. A true honor to be a small part of this.

To any milliner out there who dreams of being a part of the Royal Ascot Millinery Collective, dreams really do come true. You have to simply keep working at it and not giving up. There have been many times during 2020 and this year where I have had to remind myself that giving up is not an option.
